Smmoothies.

HEALTHY FOOD

A smoothie (alternatively spelled smoothy) is a blended and sometimes sweetened beverage made from fresh fruit (fruit smoothie) and in special cases can contain chocolate or peanut butter. In addition to fruit, many smoothies include crushed ice, frozen fruit, honey or contain syrup and ice ingredients. They have a milkshake-like consistency that is thicker than slush drinks. They can also contain milk, yogurt or ice cream. Interestingly, the difference between a fruit smoothie and a fruit juice is that smoothies use the fruit in its entirety, whereas a juice simply extracts the liquids from a fruit. For this reason smoothies are said to contain pulps and fibres, as well as in some instance the nutrients from skins (for example apples) and therefore can be marketed as being a more healthy and nutritious drink than a fruit juice. Smoothies are often marketed to health-conscious people, and some restaurants offer add-ins such as soy milk, whey powder, green tea, herbal supplements, or nutritional supplement mixes. Smoothies became widely available in the United States in the late 1960s when ice cream vendors and health food stores began selling them. By the 1990s and 2000s, smoothies became available at mainstream cafés and coffee shops and in pre-bottled versions at supermarkets all over the world.

Sour Black Cherry Smoothie

Filed Under Cherry Smoothies · Comment
black-cherry-smoothieAre you the kind of person who like the sour more in the “sweet and sour” combination? Do you like a good pucker after you take a drink? Wait, don’t answer that. But you know what I mean. If tart is your taste then you should give this cherry smoothie a try. It is sour but great tasting. Don’t be afraid to add a sweetener such as Stevia if you need a little more sweet in your sour.
Sour Cherry ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup cranberry juice
  • 1 cup pitted black cherries
  • 1/2 cup raspberries
  • 1/3 cup plain yogurt
  • 4 ice cubes
Combine the ingredients in your favorite blender and blend (from low to high if you have variable speeds) until smooth. Serves 2 or 1 if you are really hungry.
